If you're in the US and follow pop culture, you'll know that Charlie Sheen has tiger blood coursing through his veins. This is more than mere mortals can handle, but now we can get a taste of what it's like. Thanks to Harco Labs for harnessing the power of tiger blood for the average man in a convenient IV drip bag for easy transfusion.

Seriously though, according to the package, here are some rules to live by after drinking this tiger blood drink:

• 100% Passion
• Take more drugs than anyone could survive
• Bang 7 gram rocks
• Dying's for fools
• Party epically
• Expose people to magic, and then forget about them tomorrow
• Period. The end.

Talk about setting high expectations.  (I, and the drink makers, don't recommend doing drugs or banging any size rocks by the way). The drink in the pouch actually looks like the color and consistency of blood, which is pretty cool. But enough admiring the package - time to taste this tiger blood energy drink. I have two options, as the instructions on the back of the pouch explain:

First Option - Microwave:

1. Pour blood energy potion into a microwave safe container.
2. Microwave on high for 14 seconds or until 98.6 degrees Fahrenheit.
3. Pour into a goblet. Enjoy.

This is clearly the correct way to drink tiger blood. I followed the instructions exactly. It is actually a pretty thick drink, like a melted cherry popsicle. And the taste is very artificial cherry. I wasn't sure if it would be good warm, but it's surprisingly not too bad. The meek (who probably shouldn't be drinking tiger blood anyway) can try the other method of preparation.

Option Two - From the Pouch:

1. Twist off cap, while holding upright.
2. Tip pouch into mouth.
3. Taste the sweet nectar of life.

The thickness of it is much more noticeable when it's cold, and I actually think it tastes better warm. As far as the energy drink factor, it's no spike shooter, but there's definitely an immediate energy boost, probably stronger than Redbull. If you're the kind of person who drinks energy drinks for the nutritional content, you might be happy to know that this is a "liquid iron, amino acid, and enzyme supplement" just like real blood.

If you're drinking tiger blood all day and get tired of just winning, be bi-winning like Charlie Sheen and get some Adonis DNA too.

I think nearly everyone has heard of Four Loko by now. It's been all over the news, and banned in several states for sending many people to the hospital. This is prime territory for adventurous drinkers (see spike shooter) -- I had to see what all the fuss was about.

For those of you who haven't heard of Four Loko, it's an energy drink that contains about 12% alcohol, and it comes in a gigantic can. I've heard that one can has the same amount of alcohol as 5 or 6 beers, and the same caffeine as two cups of coffee. Fruit punch Four Loko tastes like Hawaiian punch with a bite. It has the "energy drink" flavor too, like monster. Overall not that bad tasting though. You can barely tell that it has alcohol in it, and it goes down pretty smoothly.

I could definitely feel it in my heart started beating faster after about a quarter of the can, and I felt a little achy in my stomach not long after that. The effect though, is less like alcohol, and more like an energy drink. With 2 of my friends, we killed two cans of Four Loko between the three of us in about half an hour, and I was feeling really pumped and energetic, not at all tipsy.

It took about an hour after finishing the can that I started to feel the effects of the alcohol and then it continued to have a greater effect over the next few hours. I could easily see how someone could drink one or two in a short period and not realize that they were getting drunk because of the offsetting effect that the energy has on you. I don't recommend anyone drinnk it, and if you do, definitely not more than one can, no matter how good you feel after the first one.  I think it's going to be hard to get for most people anyway. The day after I tried it, Four Loko was banned in New York.

I found Pony Malta in the back of a liquor store in Guayaquil, Ecuador. It comes in a little bottle for only 15 cents. It claims to be a natural and refreshing energy drink, but I still didn't feel any increase in energy after 5 minutes, and still not much after drinking the entire bottle.

It's a malt beverage like kvass, so it tastes similar but a bit better and is also slightly carbonated. The flavor also reminds me of tamarind. For a more familiar flavor, it also tastes a bit like prune juice. It's dark and not very fruity though.

Overall as an energy drink I wouldn't rate it very high. I'm not sure about the caffeine content of Pony Malta, but if you're just looking for something to wake you up I would say go with coffee. This particular brand of Malta comes from Colombia.

Quila Lime smells like a margarita mix, just like the name suggests. Based on the original flavor's bright red appearance, I expected the lime spike to be bright radioactive green. It's actually a more mellow light green-yellow, similar to Rose's lime juice. The carbonation is at a good level, and it's as sweet as the old spike. I actually prefer this new flavor over the fruit punch.

It tastes just like regular lime soda. I don't mean lemon-lime like sprite, I mean like Jarritos Limon flavor. Once again there's no bad aftertaste characteristic of most energy drinks. Even though it's called 'Quila Lime, I don't recommend mixing it with Tequila. While it might taste good (okay, I admit, it does), it's a recipe for disaster if you drink a lot because of the opposing effects of both drinks. You think vodka and redbull is bad for you? Think about how spike shooter is at least 4 times stronger than red bull.

Overall, 'Quila Lime is a good addition to Spike Shooter's product line. It tastes as good, if not better than the original fruit punch and still has the same hardcore energy kick.

Spike shooter is the ultimate energy drink. Second-to-none, this hardcore energy drink comes with plenty of warnings. The original flavor is not listed on the can, but it's some sort of fruit punch.

The Spike Shooter original flavor is bright red and lightly carbonated. It smells like a melted cherry popsicle. The taste is like a very sweet cherry flavored soda, and is very drinkable. It doesn't have any of the nasty flavors that many other energy drinks have.

The real thing that makes spike energy drink unusual is it's potency. It has 25,000% of the recommended daily value of vitamin B-12, and that's not a typo. Spike Shooter ingredients contain an absorbable form of B-12 called methylcobalamin, which is said to reduce stress, increase healthy cell growth, but most importantly boost your energy. Caffeine is the third ingredient in the drink after water and citric acid. The 250mL can is said to have the same amount of caffeine as the largest starbucks coffee. In addition to both of these, the Spike Shooter formula has it's own secret recipe of mystery energy boosters.

You definitely will feel the energy too. On the first sip I can feel it in my jaw as the chemicals get absorbed. By the third sip it's already pumping energy throughout my body.  I've got some intense focus as I'm writing this, as is to be expected with energy drinks, but I didn't expect it to happen this fast. Continuing to drink the can, the effects continue, but remain relatively constant.

You get almost as much benefit from having a few sips as you do from drinking the whole can. If you drink it fast enough you will probably feel your heart start to beat faster, and may feel a little jittery. There's a reason they say not to ever exceed one can daily. I'm a pretty tall guy, but if you're a smaller person or under 18 I definitely don't recommend drinking a whole can. It will seriously affect you, and will probably not be a good experience.

It's best to drink Spike a few sips at a time. For general energy, keep an open can in the fridge and one or two sips in the morning will take the place of coffee. It sure beats a grande latte, and has no calories, carbs, or sugar. If you're trying to stay awake, drink the can slowly over a few hours and you will have no problem staying up for a long time. Drinking it all at once will not have as good of effects.

Spike Shooter is definitely the most extreme energy drink I have ever tried, and I'm surprised to say it actually tastes good. Drink with caution though.
